Rewarding outstanding science over the decades
Novartis has a long heritage in supporting research in immunology through the Novartis Prizes for Immunology. Established in 1990, the Prizes are awarded every three years in partnership with the International Congress of Immunology, the world’s largest immunology conference. The Prizes reflect Novartis’ commitment to support research in immunology as a key area for medical progress in treating and curing patients with diseases of high unmet medical need.
The Prizes are funded by the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) – the global pharmaceutical research organization of Novartis. NIBR consists of highly trained professionals (pathway scientists, chemists, disease area specialists, clinicians and other experts) who work around the clock to invent innovative treatment options for patients.
Much of the work of NIBR focusses on targeting the elements of the immune system that drive disease in a highly selective manner. From a disease standpoint, NIBR concentrates immunology research efforts on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, type I diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus and transplant rejection.
